Sightseeing in and around Ahmedabad

There are quite a few places in and around Ahmedabad, which are famous tourist attractions. One of the most famous places is the Gandhi Ashram (also known as Sabarmati Ashram), on the banks of the Sabarmati river, where M.K. Gandhi spent a number of years during India's struggle for independence from the British rule. This place has been transformed into a museum.

 

Among other museums, we would recommend the unique Calico Museum of textiles, which showcases Ahmedabad's history as one of the finest centers of textile industry and its historical development. 

 

One can also visit Lothal (day trip), the 4500 year old port city, which is a archeological delight and was a city contemporary to the Harappa and Mahenjodaro.
